Preventing Further Damage
To prevent long-term damage, it’s important to turn off your device immediately after contact with liquid. This will prevent any short circuits caused by the conductive nature of water. Do not attempt to turn it back on, as it may turn on and then shut down permanently. Contrary to popular advice, putting your phone in rice has little to no effect in removing water or preventing corrosion. Instead, try to dry it out by shaking it and placing it in a warm location, then seek professional treatment as soon as possible. Keep in mind that water can get into every part of your device, and problems may not appear for days, weeks, or even months. We recommend backing up your data in case of any future issues. You can check if the liquid contact indicators (LCI) have activated on your iPhone through Apple’s website.
