Phone Repair NZ offers eWaste recycling drop off for your end of life mobile phones and tablets. Regardless if its working, dead, broken or damaged we are a drop off to get your mobile phone recycled properly.
How To Recycle
The easiest option is to come in to our store and ask to have your device recycled. We collect these devices along with our other electronic waste from repairs such as screens, batteries, cameras, frames and logic boards.
Before Disposing
- Power off the device.
- If the battery is removable remove it.
- Preform a factory restore to remove all personal data.
- Remove your SIM card and SD card. You can use a paper clip to eject the sim tray.
Why Recycle
- Electronic devices can contain hazardous chemicals such as: lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic.
- Lithium ion batteries pose a fire risk if damaged, crushed or punchered.
- Recycling allows reusable materials such as aluminium to be repurposed and hazardous materials to be disposed of properly.
Council recycling bins are not designed for electronic waste and disposal of batteries in these bins pose a fire risk to trucks and drivers in doing so. In 2021 the Christchurch City Council posted an article asking residents to stop disposing of their electronic waste in the yellow bins and instead use drop off points for proper disposal.
